Motherhood is far from perfect. In fact, it is often downright difficult. Yet, despite the numerous resources available to new moms or moms-to-be, very few provide the raw, in-depth truth they seek. Maybe, it is because people are afraid of “scaring” moms. Well, women are pretty tough, and moms are about as strong as you can get. To borrow from “A Few Good Men,” not only can we handle the truth, we need it, badly.

Enter, Mom Life: Perfection Pending, the new book, from Absolute Publishing, authored by beloved blogger, writer and meme-extraordinaire, Meredith Ethington.

If you follow Ethington’s blog, you are familiar with her honest, often humorous, views on motherhood. She is never afraid to approach such tough topics as postpartum depression, anxiety or even hating being a parent. It is this refreshingly candid approach to her writing which has garnered her a huge following and the respect and authority to bring her words to an even bigger audience.

Mom Life: Perfection Pending covers everything from those first moments with a crying new human thrust into your arms, to dealing with the daily battles of raising school-age kids. In each chapter, Ethington shares her own story, while offering a bit of advice based on the lessons she has learned. It is like having your most supportive, knowledgeable friend there with you whenever you need her.

I could easily call this book a great guide for mothers, but it is so much more. Mom Life: Perfection Pending isn’t another self-help book, claiming to have all the answers. What makes this book so refreshingly different, is Ethington’s ability to weave in every emotion of having children into a beautiful tapestry of words.

Choosing the right quote to sum up this book was difficult, but I think I found one:

“It feels overwhelming to want them to grow and not grow all at the same time. It feels selfish and necessary, and like I might not survive the emotions that motherhood makes me feel day in and day out. ” (From Chapter 25: The Push and Pull of Motherhood)

Mom Life: Perfection Pending is now available on Amazon. Pick up a copy for yourself, and for a mom friend who needs this in her life.

About the author:

meredith-ethington

Meredith Ethington is a mom of three and the writer and creator of the popular parenting blog, Perfection Pending. She is a born and raised Texan who loves real talk and laughter, mixed with a little bit of sarcasm. Meredith earned her degree in Psychology and then began writing in 2007 as a way to document her life as a new mom. She quickly realized she had a passion for writing, which helped her work out a lot of her feelings about being a mom. She writes mostly to commiserate with other parents and to remind herself that she doesn’t want to be a perfect mother–she wants to be a real one. She is a staff writer for Scary Mommy and Momtastic and has her work featured often by Babble, The Huffington Post, and CafeMom. In 2017, BlogHer named Meredith a Voices of The Year Honoree. She has been featured many times by Today.com as one of the funniest parents to follow on Facebook and has appeared in the Wall Street Journal and New York Magazine. Meredith now lives in Salt Lake City, Utah with her husband, three kids, and a very moody cat.

That quote is definitely the perfect way to sum up parenting. You want them to change and stay the same all at once. Looking forward to seeing more from this book!
