5 Parenting resolutions for 2017

Another year immersing myself in the world of parenting, both real and virtual, is drawing closer to an end. I thought about what I might want for the coming year, and my answers, I am sure, are similar to your own. I hope for continued health, happiness and prosperity for my family. I hope I keep finding the strength to handle the difficulties of motherhood and the sense to appreciate the beauty of the small details. I will strive to be the best parent I can be for my family, as I know you will as well. In order to do that, can we please agree that, we in this great community called parenthood, could use some resolutions?

Let’s make 2017 a great year parents.

1. Stop judging parents over stupid shit

There are plenty of awful, I mean downright vile parents out there, and, no, they aren’t the ones letting their kids snack on Doritos or play outside alone on a Cul de Sac. The very worst among us, are usually the ones we never see. They are so good at hiding their atrocities, they can actually convince us they are decent, even outstanding individuals. So the next time you see a mom sharing some fries with her four-year-old, or a dad letting his two-year-old climb on the “big kid” slide, hold the judgement for the parents that really deserve it.

2. Kill the breastfeeding/bottle-feeding shaming

Some mothers breastfeed. In public. For more than a year. For more than two years. Get over it.

Some mothers bottle feed. Can’t breastfeed. Don’t want to breastfeed. Get over it.

3. Agree no parent has it “easy”

We do a great job of making our lives look wonderful online, to the point that others may doubt we have any troubles at all. Think about this before assuming another parent is having an easier time than you.

4. Scrap the comparisons

Why is her son smarter than mine? Does she really make everything from scratch? Is he building another toy for his daughter?  Enough! We can appreciate the awesomeness of our fellow parents without putting ourselves down in the process.

5. Be kind

Parenting is hard enough. Let’s be a little nicer to one another.

Here’s to an amazing 2017!

    1. Maybe I'll Shower Today

I’ll only judge you over your choice of Cool Ranch or Nacho Cheese. Happy New Year to you as well!

I just wish more people had this mentality. No one has it easy! Whether you are single, married, breastfeed or bottle. It’s never easy to raise those tiny little humans. great post!
